After a summer that included monsoon season, you also have humidity spikes that can leave mineral deposits on glass and tile. Mold is less common than in humid climates, but it is not impossible, especially under sinks or around any slow drip that went unnoticed.

Then there is the pest factor. Scorpions, spiders, and the occasional pack rat are looking for exactly what your vacant home offers: shelter. A thorough cleaning before you settle in means you find evidence of any visitors before you reach under a counter in the dark.
