Deep Clean vs Standard Clean: What Tucson Homes Need
Which One Does Your Home Actually Need?
Most people call me and say the same thing: "I just need a cleaning." That's fine, but the answer to which type of cleaning you need changes the time it takes, the products we use, and the results you can expect. Getting this wrong means you either overpay for something you didn't need, or you're disappointed because a standard clean wasn't going to cut it to begin with.
Let me break this down the way I'd explain it to a neighbor.
What a Standard Clean Actually Covers
A standard clean is what we do on a recurring basis, say every week, every two weeks, or once a month. It assumes the home is already in reasonably maintained shape. We're cleaning surfaces that have seen normal everyday use.
On a standard visit we typically cover:
- Wiping down kitchen counters, the stovetop, and the outside of appliances
- Cleaning sinks and fixtures in kitchens and bathrooms
- Scrubbing toilets, tubs, and showers
- Dusting reachable surfaces, ceiling fans, and light fixtures
- Vacuuming and mopping floors
- Emptying trash cans
This keeps a well-maintained home looking great. If someone cleans regularly, a standard visit is all they need to stay on top of things.
What a Deep Clean Actually Covers
A deep clean goes into the places that don't get touched during a standard visit. We're talking about the buildup that accumulates over months, sometimes years. This takes significantly more time and more detailed work.
On a deep clean we add things like:
- Cleaning inside the oven, refrigerator, and microwave
- Scrubbing grout lines in tile floors and showers
- Wiping down baseboards, door frames, and window sills
- Cleaning behind and underneath furniture and appliances where possible
- Detailed cleaning inside cabinets and drawers if requested
- Removing heavy soap scum and mineral deposits around fixtures
- Cleaning light switch plates, door handles, and other high-touch surfaces thoroughly
Tucson's hard water is a real factor here. If you live in Casas Adobes, Marana, or anywhere in the Tucson metro area, you already know the white mineral scale that builds up around faucets and in showers. That scale doesn't come off with a quick wipe. It needs the right product, dwell time, and real scrubbing effort. That's deep clean work.
How to Tell Which One Your Home Needs the First Time
This is the question I get most often, especially from people booking us for the first time. Here's an honest way to figure it out.
Signs you probably need a deep clean first
- The home hasn't been professionally cleaned in six months or more
- You can see visible grime or buildup in the shower, on the stovetop, or along the baseboards
- You're moving into a home in Vail, Sahuarita, or Green Valley and you don't know how the previous occupants cleaned
- You've had pets, kids, or a renovation project recently
- The grout in your bathroom or kitchen looks darker than it should
- You can't remember the last time someone cleaned behind the stove or inside the fridge
Signs a standard clean is probably enough
- You clean regularly yourself and just want help keeping up
- The home is generally tidy and surfaces aren't showing buildup
- You've had a cleaning service recently and you're switching providers
If you're on the fence, go with the deep clean first. I know that's easy for me to say, but I mean it practically. Starting with a deep clean gets everything to a baseline we can actually maintain. After that first visit, standard cleanings are enough to keep it there. Skipping the deep clean and booking a standard visit on a home that needed more detailed work means neither you nor we are happy with the result.
Move-In and Move-Out Situations Are a Special Case
If you're moving into or out of a home in Oro Valley, Drexel Heights, Flowing Wells, or anywhere in Pima County, that almost always calls for our move-in or move-out cleaning, which is essentially a deep clean focused on every surface in an empty space. Landlords, property managers, and new homeowners in the Catalina Foothills area ask for this regularly, and it's a different scope than what either a standard or a typical deep clean covers in an occupied home.
What Affects the Price
I won't give you a number here because it genuinely depends on your specific home. The main factors are the square footage, the number of bathrooms, how long it's been since a thorough cleaning, whether pets live there, and any add-ons like inside-oven or inside-fridge cleaning. Text us your details and we'll send you an exact quote, no guessing.
